Questions Brides Frequently Ask

Do you offer a consultation for your brides?

Yes. Called a trial run or preview, it is a one-on-one consultation with my bride. I will design the hair and makeup, fill out my color chart and take digital images so that I can re-create the look exactly on the day of the event. The trial run usually takes 2 hours.

Do I have to have the trial run consultation?

The trial run is optional but highly recommended. Most brides want to know exactly what they will look like for their special day to avoid any additional stress.

What if I know exactly what I want to look like?

While it is fine for you to have an idea of what style you would like, I also like to help determine what would be best for you. The style you chose may not work for you because there is face shape, hair texture and length to consider in all styles. Because I am an experienced professional, I like to guide my brides in the hair and makeup design. I do suggest my brides bring any photos of hair and makeup styles that they like to their trial run so that it can give me an idea of what attracts them. I also like my brides to bring photos of their gown.

Do I need to have my veil and headpiece before I come for a trial run?

No. I have worked with many brides who do not yet have an idea of what they want in a veil or headpiece and often times the style I create for my brides can determine what type of veil they will get. Also, I sell hair accessories: hair pins, tiaras, combs and headbands that the brides can try on. All are made with the finest quality materials like Swarovsky Crystals, Imported Glass Pearls, Sterling Silver and Gold Plate. At this time, I do not sell veils but I do have a simple veil here for my brides to try on with the style.

How long in advance of my wedding date should I call you for a trial run appointment?

I suggest that if you are interested in trying out my services, that you call and make an appointment as soon as possible because I book up quickly and I want to be sure I have your date available.

What type of products do you use:

I use top-quality products like MAC, Lancome, Nars, Bobbi Brown, Revlon, RCMA and Dermalogica. I have found my favorites with each one. However, I am not limited to these products. I always try different products so if I find something that I like, I will use it.

Can I use my own cosmetics?

I prefer using the professional products I have in my kit. They give me consistent results. However, if you have products you really want me to use, I will be happy to accommodate.

How long does it take to get the bride ready on the day of the event?

It depends on what hair and makeup style I am doing, but generally I book two hours for the bride and about 30 minutes per service for bridal party members. Wedding days can be hectic, so when it comes to doing the day's schedule, I always pad my time.

I am concerned about my makeup and hair style lasting after the ceremony.

We can be hired to stay through the photography, ceremony and even the reception to provide touch-ups for you. It will ensure that you and your bridal party stay looking perfect! Touch-up kits are also available for purchase.

Can you do hair and makeup for theme weddings? What about cultural weddings?

Yes. I am trained in costume and character makeup and hair design so I can create the special look you desire for your themed or cultural event. I also offer Mehandi for Indian weddings.

Do you work with hair extensions and hair pieces?

Yes. I can add temporary, clip-in style extensions but the bride must provide these herself. I do not do the sewn-in or bonded hair extensions but I can easily work with women who have these already applied.

How long have you been doing this?

I've been doing hair and makeup design for over 14 years and have done countless on-location services. This experience has qualified me to perfect my timing, and to work within timelines and schedules. I have a strong reputation as being reliable, on time and professional. Something that is of utmost importance to a bride on her wedding day.

Can you accommodate large bridal parties?

Yes. Katya Makeup Artistry can provide services for large bridal parties by bringing an additional artist at an additional fee.

What type of bride hires Katya Professional Makeup Artistry?

I work with all types of brides, from all cultures and walks of life. Today's bride chooses me because I have a more natural approach with makeup. I like to enhance a bride's features, not hide them. I like to create hair styles that will complement the bride's facial features, gown and style.

One more thing regarding makeup...

My philosophy is that brides should look very much like themselves on their wedding day, with added polish, elegance and flawlessness. No one wants to look in the mirror and think “Oh my God, I don't look like myself! Who will recognize me with all of this makeup on!”

While I do use makeup, I steer away from bright colors and “camera-ready” application which is way too heavy for a bride. Even though you are going to be photographed throughout the event, it isn't necessary to be caked with heavy products and contouring. You will still be flawless, without being overdone.
